The game is set to launch on the Sui blockchain. It will bring a mix of nostalgia and digital ownership to modern players.
Many gamers believe the “golden age” of traditional gaming peaked over a decade ago. They feel it still hasn’t been matched. Is this a good time for Sui to lead this change?
Nostalgia Drives Gamers Back to Classic Titles on the Blockchain
According to Cointelegraph, this sentiment is driving players back to the games they once loved. “With the current market of games, gamers are increasingly returning to nostalgic titles,” says Anthony Palma, head of gaming partnerships at Mysten Labs.
Palma explains that reviving classic games on the blockchain has advantages over building new Web3 games from scratch. Since players already know and love these games, there’s less friction in getting them on board. “If a game, game company, or IP already resonates with players, they’re more open to exploring how digital ownership enhances their experience,” he says.

Fans won’t have to wait too long. Code of Joker: Evolutions is set to launch in late summer 2025 on iOS, Android, and PC. The game’s move to Web3 will introduce digital assets, making ownership and in-game transactions more transparent and secure.
A Growing Trend in Nostalgic Web3 Gaming
Sega isn’t the only company tapping into gaming nostalgia. AtariX, the Web3 initiative of Atari, announced in July that it would bring classic titles to the blockchain through a partnership with Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 scaling solution. The initiative kicked off with Asteroids, a legendary arcade game first released in 1979.
Earlier in 2024, developers at the Bitcoin Ordinals portfolio tracker Ninjalerts also joined the trend. They inscribed a Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) emulator onto the blockchain, allowing gamers to play SNES classics in a fully decentralized way.

Bringing nostalgic games to blockchain could be a game-changer. Players get a taste of the past while enjoying the benefits of digital ownership and transparency. And for game developers, it’s a chance to breathe new life into beloved titles with a modern twist.
