The Ethereum Foundation has announced that Ethereum remains the number one ecosystem for new developers in 2025. This means it is still far ahead of other blockchains like Solana and Bitcoin.
According to data collected by Electric Capital, more than 16,000 new developers joined the Ethereum ecosystem between January and September this year. That makes Ethereum home to the largest active developer base in crypto, totaling about 31,869 developers.

In comparison, Solana ranked second with 17,708 developers, while Bitcoin came in third with 11,036. The Ethereum Foundation thanked Electric Capital for its research and gave credit to everyone “who builds on Ethereum and has helped make this ecosystem the #1 developer platform in crypto.”
Solana’s Fast Growth Sparks Debate
While Ethereum continues to dominate in size, Solana’s growth rate has been much faster. Over the past year, Solana’s full-time developer count rose by 29%, and over two years, it jumped more than 60%.

However, Solana Foundation’s head of developer relations, Jacob Creech, argued that the data undercounts Solana developers by about 7,800. He encouraged developers to register their GitHub repositories to ensure more accurate tracking.
Despite the data dispute, Solana’s momentum is clear. The blockchain is attracting a growing community of builders at a faster pace than any other blockchain.

Questions About Data Accuracy
Not everyone is convinced by the numbers. Jarrod Watts, from layer-2 project Abstract, said AI tools and hackathon projects may have inflated the count of “new developers.” He noted that many short-lived or AI-generated projects could distort the statistics.
4/ Thank you to @ElectricCapital for continuing to collect high quality data on crypto developers, and sharing it with the community.
And thank you to everyone who builds on Ethereum and has helped make this ecosystem the #1 developer platform in crypto.

As competition heats up, it is clear that the developer race in crypto is shaping the future of every major blockchain.
