This week, Browserbase announced the launch of its new x402 endpoint, built in partnership with Coinbase.
The goal is simple but powerful. Let AI agents buy and run real browser sessions on demand, paying per use in USDC, without API keys, billing accounts, or human approval. This matters because it shows how crypto payments are moving from theory into real business infrastructure.
AI Agents Meet Crypto Payments
Browserbase provides access to real browsers in the cloud. These are not simulations. An agent can open Chrome, visit live websites, click buttons, fill forms, and read pages just like a human would. With x402, any large language model or AI agent that has a crypto wallet can discover Browserbase, see clear pricing, and pay per session using USDC. The process is automatic and transparent. There is no signup flow, no credit card, and no manual setup.
Coinbase explained that this removes friction at every step. Instead of negotiating contracts or managing keys, agents simply pay when they need compute power. This fits a growing trend where AI systems act on behalf of users, buying tools and services in real time.
Excited to partner with Coinbase to allow users to purchase browser sessions on the x402 protocol.
Using USDC, you can now pay-per individual serverless browser session; no API Key or login needed.

A recent report from McKinsey estimates that generative AI could add up to 4.4 trillion dollars annually to the global economy. As more of that value comes from autonomous agents, services must be built for machines first, not humans.
More About x402
x402 is helping revive the crypto and AI narrative by making payments native to the internet for both users and AI agents. Built by Coinbase, x402 extends the HTTP 402 status code to enable pay per request payments using stablecoins, removing subscriptions, accounts, and credit cards. Its most relatable use case is fixing clunky paywalls, letting users or AI agents pay per article or action instantly.

At a larger scale, x402 enables AI agent commerce, allowing agents to discover services, transfer value, and act on behalf of users, much like a payments layer for AI tools. Adoption is accelerating, with Google adding x402 to its Agent Payments Protocol, Cloudflare partnering on the x402 Foundation, Solana reaching about half of all x402 transactions, and x402 v2 improving developer experience and payment flexibility, setting the stage for real crypto x AI adoption.
