November for the market, so far, has us in a place where we don’t know whether to laugh or cry. And the whole market is affected now. That’s why it’s a good time to go back to basics. Let’s look at who is building. At what they are building. And what the real growth opportunities are. They are out there. Walrus in the Sui ecosystem is a clear case of a huge growth opportunity with direct involvement in AI and machine learning for its decentralized storage solution.
Let’s see what Walrus has been up to during this turbulent month for the market.
Walrus Haulout Hackathon
One of the first updates going on is the almost month-long hackathon Walrus is offering with over $100,000 in prizes to the winners. Aside from the size of the prize pool, most following the industry know that hackathons are often weekend long events. The idea is to find one part of a product or service that needs updating and just build that. After all, you can only build so much in 48 hours.
The Walrus Haulout Hackathon is live and it’s bringing $100k+ in prizes!
Submissions are now open 🧑💻
It’s time to build with data.
10 days, 4 tracks, and a whole new frontier of onchain innovation – powered by Walrus, Seal, and Nautilus.📅 Submissions close on November 16 pic.twitter.com/LrcBXUr857

But this one started on November 6th. Submissions just closed on the 16th. And next week the results come out. Both the variety and the specific nature of what Walrus is seeking in this hackathon is different, too.
They let people select from one of 4 tracks
- Data Economy & Marketplaces
- AI and Data
- Provably Authentic (like a trust oracle or provenance service)
- Privacy & Security
Given how 2 of these areas with AI and privacy are such big stories, it’s possible these areas dominate the hackathon. Yet all 4 provide something valuable to the Walrus ecosystem and help show people how good this decentralized storage is.
SuiConnect at DevConnect (Tuesday Afternoon)
Buenos Aires! 🇦🇷
Walrus team will be at Sui Connect on Tuesday – come find us and see what we’re cooking.

Walrus and Sui both will be in Buenos Aires for DevConnect. It’s a guaranteed good time in a beautiful place if you are lucky enough to be down there. These events are a great way to meet the builders and hear what’s going on from the projects themselves.
Cloudflare Down
On November 18th, we experienced a worldwide Cloudflare outage. Apparently, it was already the fifth time this year that such an outage had happened. Events like this only prove that decentralised infra beats a centralised version. Any day, really. Walrus offers a great alternative to centralised giants like AWS. Or, in this case, Cloudflare.
Cloudflare is down again, this is like the 5th MAJOR internet outage of 2025.
Very scary times…

Baselight Integration
Baselight is like your AI co-pilot for data analysis. You load your data set in, and it helps you analyse it instantly. It’s very powerful. They need data storage that both stores lots of data quickly and easily, such as Baselight’s data sets for their customers. Plus, they need the quick, secure user access controls Walrus provides so users can get what they need from the data easily.
It’s a great match, and no doubt both Baselight and Walrus will benefit from working together.
Walrus Doing More With AI
This partnership shows one of the directions Walrus is looking to go in the future. And not surprisingly, it’s AI. AI needs tons of storage space and computing power. As far as storage goes, AI companies need to store their models and train them. Then, they also need to store the data sets they are using to train the models, as well as the data sets for their paying customers. It’s A LOT of data.
The Verifiable AI Control Plane on Sui helps keep AI accountable.
Every AI action can now prove:
✅ What data it accessed
✅ What rules it followed
✅ What it actually didBuilt on Walrus + the Sui Stack 🦭

Walrus and Sui together are building the “verifiable AI control plane”. This is a complicated way of saying building out a system that shows that an AI agent does what it is supposed to do and completes the task. And, just as important, it does not do more than the tasks it is supposed to do. This helps maintain accountability for the agents and their builders against something malicious or accidental happening. We are going to see more of these types of enforcement for AI agents coming soon.
Conclusion
Walrus is doing a lot of good things. Things real builders do. And then market conditions get ugly like they are now, it’s a good reminder that there are projects really building something people need. Projects that have real utility. Walrus is one of those projects. Check out Walrus today at their website or on X for their latest updates.
