The company announced PayPal links. This is a new feature that lets users send and receive money. This is through a personalized, one-time link that can be shared in any conversation. U.S. users can start creating links immediately. International availability in the U.K., Italy, and other markets rolling out later this month.
By simplifying transactions and making them universal, PayPal links aim to bring more users into the PayPal ecosystem. This is while enhancing convenience for everyday payments.
Simplifying Peer-to-Peer Payments
PayPal links allow users to create a private, single-use link for a specific payment or request. Links can be sent via text, email, or chat, and include notes or emojis for clarity. Unclaimed links expire after ten days, and users can manage requests by sending reminders or canceling payments before they are accepted. Once claimed, recipients receive instant access to funds in their PayPal Balance account. This approach combines flexibility, security, and speed, making it easier than ever for friends, family, or small businesses to exchange money.

This innovation reflects a broader trend in fintech: personalization and frictionless transactions. Companies like Venmo and Cash App have already popularized instant, digital P2P payments. By adding personalized links, PayPal extends that convenience while maintaining privacy and compliance. Importantly, personal payments through PayPal and Venmo remain exempt from 1099-K reporting, so gifts, reimbursements, and shared expenses do not trigger tax forms.
Crypto Integration and Global Reach
PayPal is also integrating crypto into its new P2P flow. U.S. users will soon be able to send Bitcoin, Ethereum, and PayPal’s own PYUSD stablecoin to other PayPal accounts, Venmo users, and a growing network of digital wallets worldwide. This move aligns with the rising trend of digital assets in everyday payments and makes crypto more accessible for routine transactions.
